My (Not So) Secret NatGeo Habit

So beside the degree in filmmaking I’m about to receive, and the children’s book I’m publishing in Fall 2016, I have a (not so) secret dream of working for National Geographic.

Out of all my artistic pursuits, I consider this closest to my “Hobby”

There is no pressure to build a sustainable career, or brand. Maybe one day I’ll be paid by researchers or non-profit organizations, but so long as I have a camera I will continue to study and “capture” this amazing planet.

Sadly, having a camera is not always assured, lol.  So, the whole idea is a work in progress.

But, even a working artist needs to find a hobby that relaxes them, that gives them the sense of accomplishment — without the stress of achievement…

…And a chance to be a little cheeky!

Enchanting Costumes for Children, and the Children at heart!

Stumbled upon another amazingly talented artist during my internet integration. Sara Lowes has made costumes and headdresses for the whimsically inclined.

Now I don’t know Sara personally, so I’ll let her About Page fill you in:

Animalesque is a unique and independent costume brand for all those wild little creatures who love to dress up! But also for grown-up kids with an eye for something special…

Founded by artist and textile designer, Sara Lowes, Animalesque inspires creative play and helps to bring narrative to life through costume and props, capturing a sense of wonder and reconnecting children with their innate gift, and fundamental need, to imagine.

Animalesque combines Sara’s expertise in textile design – illustration, screen-print and embroidery – with her experience as a children’s storyteller, to produce playful costumes and accessories, rich with colour, texture and character.

Using a diverse range of fabrics, often recycled or collected on various travels, Sara lovingly produces her collectible creations in her London studio.

It's all about ears and feathers in my studio today 😀

When I was poking around her website, I notice she also does COMMISSIONED DESIGNS!!

I know where I’m going for my fairytale jacket!

Something Unfortunate Is Coming…

Can’t. Express. Excitement!!

This is was not actually made by Netflix, but by an, as of yet unnamed, fan. Does that mean the whole thing is fake? No!

“The Netflix series will be produced in association with Paramount Television. Paramount Pictures distributed 2004 film “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” starring Jim Carrey, which grossed $118.6 million on an estimated production budget of $140 million, according to Box Office Mojo.” –

All we can hope is Netflix will take a cue from this beautiful, and well thought out, teaser.

Note from Snivels: I guess we’ll have to stop using “unfortunate” when promoting the book…
